SARASOTA, Fla.- The Jacksonville women's rowing team completed a weekend of racing at the Sunshine State Invitational. The weekend saw some of the best times in Jacksonville's history of attending the invite.
With some of the countries best boats, the Sunshine State Invite was a weekend full of close races.
"This weekend had many great tests for our program," said head coach
Mike Lane at the conclusion of the week. "We learned a ton and had some of the best racing results in our history of attending the Sunshine State Invitational. What was most impressive was the full, undeniable effort given by every athlete in every boat. Our success this weekend is a great building block as we head into the meat of our spring racing season. Right now, they are primed for continued success!"
The Dolphins Varsity Eight raced in the second heat and finished second to last on Friday ahead of Kansas State. They improved by nearly seven seconds at 6:49.30 on Saturday in the Varsity Eight Petite Final, where they took third behind Kansas and Kansas State
Jacksonville's Second Varsity Eight took fifth on day one of racing with a 7:02.23 time and shaved 11 seconds off their time in the Second Varsity Eight Petite Final. The improvement saw them claim in second, just behind Tulsa, at 6:51.53 after a much improved time.
JU's First Varsity Four took fourth place in their heat with a time of 7:31.78 behind the likes of Kansas, Kansas State and Tulsa. Their fourth place finish saw them clinch a spot in the Varsity Four Grand Final on Saturday, where they took sixth with another improved time of 7:25.33.
The Dolphins Second Varsity Four took second to last in their respected heat Friday. The Second Varsity Four then followed suit with the rest of the Dolphins boats and improved their time on day two by six seconds with 7:33.13 shown on the clock. Jacksonville's improved time saw them take first in the Second Varsity Four Petite Final by more than 18 seconds, and ahead of boats from Louisville, Miami and West Virginia.
The dolphins Third Varsity Eight finished in fourth on Friday with a time of 7:04.66. They improved by nearly five seconds on Saturday in the Grand Final and claimed fourth.
