WEST WINDSOR, N.J.- The Jacksonville men's rowing team is finishing their final prep ahead of the final regatta of their season in the 2023 IRA National Championship's.
The 2023 season marks the third consecutive year that JU has sent a boat to the IRA National Championship's. A season ago, the team reached the Petite Final, and their 6:18:033 time was good for 12th place. This year's pool of boats includes some of the fastest in the country. School's like Harvard, California, Georgetown, Washington, Wisconsin, Cornell and Stanford mark some of the 32 boats that will compete in the time-trial in hopes to advance to Saturday's semi-final.
"After a tough selection process, seat racing and training camp, we are prepared for exciting racing here at the IRA Championships," said head coach
Preston Weinard. "The seat racing was really close this year, which made selection very tough for us coaches but very promising for the future of JU Men's Rowing. With the majority of the boat made up of underclassmen, this will be a weekend learning and seeing what we're made of. There will be some awesome competition this weekend in the Varsity 4+ category, so JU is excited to let it rip!
The V4 race begins Friday with the time-trials. From there, teams will be split into five semi finals, set for later on Friday afternoon. From there, teams will again be split into five pools for the Finals.
