UCF edges Jacksonville, 4-3
Feb. 23, 2006 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to UCF on Wednesday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex. The Dolphins picked up three singles wins by Emese Sulyos, Lena Willi and Nanar Airapetian, but couldn't get the fourth point in a tough loss. "We fought really hard today and I'm proud of how we played," said JU head coach Jarod Camerota. "Our top three came out and got some big points for us, but we just need to keep working hard in our four, five and six positions and good things will happen for us." The Dolphins fell behind early after dropping the doubles point. UCF claimed an 8-0 win over Willi and Megan Williams in the No. 2 match while Elizabeth Styles and Keri Zwikker fell in the No. 3 match, 8-0. The bright spot in doubles was the play of Sulyos and Airapetian, who claimed an 8-5 win at the No. 1 position. In singles play, Sulyos improved to 5-1 on the season with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Pamela Fernandez. At the No. 2 position, Willi bounced back after a tough loss at UNF the day before with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Elvira Serrot. Airapetian continued her stellar freshman campaign by rallying from a set down to beat Anna Yakimchenkova, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4. The Dolphins dropped points in the No. 4, 5 and 6 matches as UCF clinched the match. Williams fell at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3 to Kenza Belbacha, with Elizabeth Styles dropping the No. 5 match to Megan Hunter, 6-0, 6-0. Katie Orr lost the No. 6 match to Jennifer Carati, 6-0, 6-0. The Dolphins are back in action again on March 3 against Eastern Michigan. First serve is set for 2 p.m. |
