JU Volleyball Splits Weekend, Earns First Win

After losing a hard fought four-set battle to Florida Atlantic on Friday evening, the Dolphins bounced back with a vengeance Saturday evening to dominate the Stetson Hatters for a 3-0 decision. The win was the first of the season for the Dolphins, improving their record to 1-9 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic Sun action. The Hatters fall to 3-8, 0-1 in the A-Sun.
Sophomore outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led the way for the Dolphins with 12 kills. JU got nine kills each from junior outside hitter Alesha Rodriguez (Cleveland, Ohio), junior middle hitter Brooke Ahrens (Benson, Ill.) and senior setter Carrie Bosworth (Centreville, Mass.), who also had a .474 attack percentage and added 35 assists. Rodriguez paced the Dolphin defense with 13 digs.
In Friday's match, the Dolphins had four players score double-digit kills and digs, but it wasn't enough to hold back to Owls' attack as JU lost the four-game match 22-30, 30-27, 28-30, 31-29. Bosworth led the Dolphins with 10 kills, 49 assists, and 11 digs, while hitting .455. Arhens and Dimitrova added 17 and 15 kills respectively.
The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday, October 3 as they face Florida A&M in a non-conference battle at 7:30, at Swisher Gymnasium.
