Volleyball Falls to Xavier in Hampton Inn/JU Invitational, 3-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU senior outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and junior outside hitter Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) each recorded 14 kills to lead the Dolphins as they fell to Xavier, 3-1 (30-24, 24-30, 25-30, 20-30), Saturday afternoon at the Hampton Inn/JU Invitational. Ryals also added a match-high 14 digs for her second double-double in as many matches, while Dimitrova had six blocks.

Sophomore middle hitter Lindsay Ward (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) and junior outside hitter Candice Rose (Mechanicsville, Md.) had 11 kills and nine digs each, while Ward also added six blocks. Freshman setter Erin Hickman (San Antonio, Texas) had a match-high 50 assists for the Dolphins (1-1).

Xavier's Marisa Main posted a triple-double with 18 kills, 13 digs and 36 assists. Kimberly Cockerel added 17 kills, while Kate Duchek had 15 and Laci Hasenour had 12 for the Musketeers (2-0).

In the first match Saturday, Birmingham Southern swept Maryland-Baltimore County, 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 32-30). Cassie Reed led the Panthers (1-1) with 13 kills, while Jenny Thomasson had 11. Setter Kyndall Waters had 35 assists and 11 digs. Jocelyn Teoh had 13 kills to lead the Retrievers (0-2).

The tournament concludes tonight with Xavier facing Birmingham Southern at 6 p.m., followed by JU hosting UMBC at 8 p.m.
