Record-Tying Streak Ends as Volleyball Falls, 3-0, to Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. - Despite 12 kills from freshman outside hitter Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and 10 kills from junior outside hitter Candice Rose (Mechanicsville, Md.), JU could not better its record-tying streak of 11-straight victories as the Dolphins fell 3-0 (18-30, 28-30, 26-30) to Georgia State on Saturday night in the GSU Sports Arena. Senior outside hitter Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) chipped in with nine kills in the loss, while sophomore setter Erin Donivan (Sarasota, Fla.) recorded her 200th career dig in the match, finishing with nine.

Prior to the loss, JU (12-11, 6-1 A-Sun) remained undefeated since Sept. 24 and won of 33 of the last 36 games. The loss is JU's first in Atlantic Sun play, but the Dolphins still remain near the top of the conference standings with three conference matches in the next two weeks.

Georgia State (24-5, 7-0 A-Sun) stunned JU with a 30-18 win in the first game before the Dolphins rebounded, battling to tie the score at 27 in the second game before eventually falling 30-28. JU remained in the hunt in the third game, tying the affair late at 26 before the Panthers recorded the final four points to claim a 30-26 victory.

JU returns home to take on Bethune-Cookman on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.
