Dolphins hit the field for the first time on Tuesday
The JU football team hit the practice field for the first time on Tuesday, going for two hours in the late afternoon heat.

The Dolphins spent the practice in helmets only, installing the basic offense and defense schemes for the upcoming season. The lack of pads was good because the temperature pushed 95 degrees and 100 on the heat index.

As part of the NCAA acclimation process, JU’s initial practices add a layer each day, with today starting only with helmets. By the end of the week, the Dolphins will be going in full pads in their first scrimmage on Saturday at 10 a.m. at D.B. Milne Field.

“We had a good first practice,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “I really liked the energy I saw out there today and the effort we got from the guys. I want to see us build off of this momentum in the next few days as we prepare for our first scrimmage.

“What we’re looking for in the next few days is consistency. We want to see the guys giving the same effort each and every play, every day. Those are the guys that we are looking to take the field with when we go to Savannah State.”
