Junior varsity football outlasts Webber International in season finale, 29-9
In a penalty-marred game, the JU junior varsity football team scored 26 unanswered points in the second half to down Webber International, 29-9, in the 2008 season finale on Monday afternoon in Lake Whales, Fla.
The Dolphins (2-3) scored three times on defense in the second half to sweep the seasons series after knocking off the Warriors, 16-6, on Sept. 22 at D.B. Milne Field.
The offense was paced by the two-headed quarterback system of Michael Clifton and Butch Moore, while also having good performances on the ground by Keith Dawson and Chard Oubre. Ben Wikel and Austin Lands helped anchored the defense in the final regular-season game.
Trailing 9-3 in the third quarter, Kris Keating took an interception off the Warriors back for a touchdown to tie the game the Dolphins.
The Warriors still couldn’t get a handle on things in the next series as Eric Carmody ran back a fumble recovery for a touchdown to give the Dolphins a 16-9 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, the Dolphins earned a 22-9 lead on a touchdown strike from Moore to Bradley Rucker.
JU cornerback Michael Dorminey returned an interception to the end zone on the final play of the game to secure the win for the Dolphins.
