Senior shortstop Derek Abis went 3-for-3 while freshman designated hitter Adam Brett Walker provided some fireworks with a home run over the trees in left center but the JU baseball team fell to UCF, 14-8, Wednesday evening at John Sessions Stadium.

JU (22-23), which has lost three straight contests, finished with 14 hits but committed a game-high four errors.

UCF (30-19) completed the season sweep over JU for the first time since 2004 by scoring 11 runs through innings 2-6 and finishing with a game-high 17 hits.

“We have got to change things if we want to play in the postseason,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “This was a good opportunity for us to get some momentum before an important series but it didn’t happen. We have got to do better if we want to compete with FGCU.”

Senior Glenn Witkowski (2-7) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits with a walk and three strikeouts in four innings. Sophomore Baker Chapman added 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to lead the bullpen.

Brennan Dobbins (3-0) got the win after allowing two runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in three innings.

Along with Abis and Walker, sophomore left fielder Jonathan Murphy and freshman center fielder Dan Gulbransen each added multiple hits while senior first baseman Alex Martinez and junior catcher Alex Swenson each drove in two runs.

Chris Taladay had a day for the Knights as he finished 4-for-6 with three doubles, a home run and two RBI. Ryan Breen and Alex Friedrich also added three hits apiece to contribute for UCF.
