Louise Kiernan wins 100-meter at Irish National Under-23 Championships
Despite having concluded her NCAA season, JU’s Louise Kiernan is not slowing down as she won the 100-meter at the Irish National Under-23 Championships on June 28.
With the win, Kiernan earns a spot on the Irish National Team for the European Under-23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania from July 16-19. She will also compete in the 4x100-meter relay during the three-day meet.
“Louise is continuing her successful season back home in Ireland,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “Winning an individual national title and representing her country in major championships is a great accomplishment and will create lifelong memories. We are very proud of Louise.”
The Dublin, Ireland native also put herself in position to earn a spot on the national title after a successful first season at JU where the Dolphins picked up their fourth consecutive Atlantic Sun Indoor and Outdoor titles.
At the A-Sun Outdoor Championship, Kiernan posted regional qualifying times in the 100-meter (11.53) and 200-meter (24.43). She also won the 100-meter during the regular season at the JU-UNF Duals (4/30), UNF Osprey Challenge (4/18) and Seminole Invitational (4/11).
Kiernan helped the Dolphins win all five of their 4x100-meter relay attempts during the regular season, while also assisting JU to a conference title in the event with a school record time of 44.82.
At the NCAA Regionals, Kiernan was a part of the 4x100-meter relay that broke the school record again with a time of 44.62 to place fifth and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
