Former Dolphin Ayron Hardy named BBL Defensive Player of the Year
Former JU men’s basketball player Ayron Hardy continues his stellar campaign overseas by earning British Basketball League’s Defensive Player of the Year and Team of the Year honors.
Hardy, who is in his first season with the Leicester Riders, has a 15.7 scoring average to go along with 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and one block a contest in helping his squad to 22 wins for second place in the BBL.
The Birmingham, Ala. native is also up for MVP consideration after getting named to the BBL Team of the Week more times than any other player this season and achieving numerous Molten Player of the Month accolades.
“We are happy to see Ayron perform well in his first pro season,” JU head coach Cliff Warren said. “He is a very special player and we knew he was going to be a success at the next level once he got his shot. I look forward to seeing more of this out of Ayron as he keeps playing.”
Hardy, a forward from 2007-11, finished his time at JU ranked second in career steals, seventh in career blocks and is 18th on the all-time scoring list. Hardy is also tied with former teammate Travis Cohn for the most games played all-time.
