Sand volleyball loses in five sets at Stetson

The JU sand volleyball team took its second straight 3-2 loss Tuesday to Stetson in the duals finale in DeLand, Fla.
The Hatters (6-7) took the No. 4 and 5 flights to start the day before winning the second flight to secure the win. The Dolphins (1-4) won in the first flight for the second straight match as sophomore Kendall Courtney and freshman Cari Whitmire downed Julie Bassett and Kaley Melville in three sets (21-15, 14-21, 15-13). In the second flight, senior Kathryn Kane and freshman Sammie Strausbaugh won in straight sets (21-14, 21-11) against Stetson’s Alisha Hoffman and Taylor Story. Junior Alison Loeppky and freshman Jenna Orner fell in three sets in the fourth flight for JU, while sophomore Alyssa Robertson and junior Nicole Teplitz lost in the fifth flight. Sophomore Niatha Cullen and freshman Chelsea Sanderson fell in the second flight in two sets. The Dolphins round out the regular season schedule Friday at the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournament in Siesta Key, Fla.
