Football places two on FCS preseason All-America team
Junior cornerback Colby Walden and senior quarterback Josh McGregor are getting some national notice for the JU football team as each earned a spot on the 2011 Football Championships Series (FCS) preseason All-American team by the Consensus Draft Services (CDS) on Wednesday afternoon.
Walden earned third team honors, while McGregor received honorable mention accolades prior to starting his final year with the Dolphins. Walden is the only PFL player to earn a spot on the top three teams.
“We are happy they got this recognition,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “They each had a great year in 2010 which helped us win the PFL title. We look forward to having them again as we fight for another championship.”
In 2010, Walden recorded 23 tackles (four for a loss) and two interceptions, while recording 276 return yards on kickoffs. He also returned an 82-yard kickoff in the home finale against Campbell to help the Dolphins to a 31-24 win.
McGregor had 205 completions for 32 touchdowns and 3,049 in 11 starts during the 2010 season. The yard broke his single-season record for the third straight year, while his 263-yard effort at Butler gave him more than 8,000 yards for his career. McGregor also enters the season as one of the top 10 FCS quarterbacks to watch in 2011.
Walden, McGregor and the Dolphins start camp in August to prepare for the 2011 season opener at The Citadel on Sept. 3.
