Saturday Practice Report
The Jacksonville University Dolphins had an early practice Saturday with both the grass and playing field being used. Following practice, the team played host to a clinic for several hundred kids from the Ponte Vedra Junior Developmental League.

The Big Picture: The session started at 8:30 a.m. on the grass field north of D.B. Milne Field. Temperature was about 86 and it was pleasant. About 9:40, the o-line and d-line stayed behind while the other units went to the playing field. Things got hot in a hurry. Temp rose to 97, heat index on the artificial surface was really hot. Mixed bag in passing game drills. At some points the offense was excellent then the defense would take over.

The Highlights: Early passing by QBs, Josh McGregor and Trevius Folston. Tight spirals, on target and fun to watch. … RB Hank Farmer serenading fellow RBs with “We work hard over here; (we’re) all in this year’’ … Nice interception by sophomore DB Chandler McKinnon.

From The Players: “We were in a soft zone and I was just sinking back and he threw it right into the zone, it got tipped, you know we do tip drills, and I saw that and just caught it. I tried to stay up (he fell to the ground), but you can’t take them back all the time.’’ – DE Chandler McKinnon on his interception.

From The Coaches: Defensive coordinator Jerry Odom: “I like the way the guys have burst through the heat. We’re doing a tremendous amount of reps. I’m really, really happy with the d-line and the secondary. We’ve got a lot of guys back there who are good football players. If we had to play a game we might get away with it with those groups. At linebacker were young, we’ve got to replace a couple darn good outside linebackers. Taylor Marsh started four games for us last year and I like the way he’s playing. We’ve got a new guy, Lucktes Estiverne who shows a lot of potential. Blythe (Weaver) is showing some potential. Mike Klein is back, we’ve got a good group. I like the effort but we’ve got a long way to go to get ready for three really tough games coming up (Citadel, Western Illinois and Charleston Southern). We’ve got a good group of guys who work awful hard.’’
