Men’s tennis falls to South Carolina State

On Saturday, the Jacksonville University men’s tennis team was defeated 5-2 by South Carolina State.  The freshmen pair of Richard Casagrande and Eduardo Martinez were able win their singles matches and secure JU’s lone points of the match.

Casagrande was able to defeat South Carolina State’s Lee in straight sets 7-5, 7-5.  This marked Casagrande’s second win of the season in as many matches.  He found equal success in the doubles competition as he and partner Fernando Bano Lopez defeated the team of Viogradous and Niktin 9-7.

Martinez had to work a little more for his singles victory as it went to three sets.  He defeated Bizon 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.  This was Martinez’s first singles competition of the season and moves his individual record to 1-0. 

The Dolphins are now 0-2 on the season.  They return to action February 14th when they host Bethune-
Cookman at 2:30 pm.
