Women's tennis kicks off conference play with a 1-2 record
The JU women’s tennis team has gone 1-2 so far in conference play with the win coming against USC Upstate. JU defeated the Spartans 6-1 on March 17. Djessika Bezerra has led the Dolphins in conference play with a 2-1 individual record. She defeated USC Upstate’s Hannah Al-Sakati in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. The Dolphin’s impressive freshman Aline Staudt won her flight #1 match against Spartan Isabel von Stryk. She dropped the first set but countered winning the next two to win the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Staudt and fellow Dolphin Natalia Melibeu teamed up to win in doubles against von Stryk and Talia Rojas 8-2. Staudt is 1-2 in conference with tough losses against ETSU and UNF’s #1 players. Melibeu was also victorious in her individual match against Upstate. She defeated Rojas in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. The Dolphins play Stetson next in conference play and will travel to Deland on March 29 to take on the Hatters. |
