USA Blog #3: Happy Father's Day
It's Father's Day - and I got an early wake up call this morning from my wife and son wishing me a Happy Father's Day! It was truly a great way to start the day.
With it being Father's Day, I talked to my dad also. He is fired up that I'm here and think I'm a big-time coach like the others! He's got more confidence in me than I do in myself. I love him for that!
We had our first practice at 8:30 this morning to finalize the team. We will keep 13 until Tuesday or Wednesday and then have to trim the roster down to 12. These are some very touch decisions. Every guy we let go of is very talented.
Night practice was ALL DEFENSE!! Shell drill. Close outs. You name a defensive drill, we ran it. That practice was very competitive and it got a little chippy, but is was all good as we were competing to get better.
Back at the hotel after practice I met a couple of MLB scouts. Sipio Spinks, who played for the Astros, and Larry Coragan, who scouts the National League. These guys were FUNNY, but big basketball fan too!
I've got to go watch tonight's practice on tape, then get some rest. We've still got a lot of work to do.
