Gulbransen named first team Capital One Academic All-America
JU baseball junior Dan Gulbransen earned a national honor for his strong work in the classroom by being named first team Capital One Academic All-America.
Gulbransen, named to the All-District team on May 7, earned the first team honors after posting a 4.0 GPA in his exercise science major. He is the first Dolphin to make the first team since Jeremy Gillan in 2009. Gulbransen received third team academic All-America honors in 2011.
The Wisconsin native has also been named the 2012 A-Sun baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and received a unanimous selection on the scholar-athlete team. He has been named A-Sun All-Academic and to the President’s Honor Roll twice during his time at JU.
“We are very happy for Dan,” JU head coach Terry Alexander said. “Dan is the perfect example of what a student-athlete should be because he excels on and off the field. We are proud of what he has accomplished in his time at JU and know he will be very successful in the future.”
On the field in 2012, Gulbrasnen earned first team all-conference honors for the third straight season by ranking second on the team in average (.324), hits (67), triples (1), home runs (6) and RBI (33). He also led the Dolphins with 21 multiple-hit games.
Gulbransen hit .380 in A-Sun play and finished the conference schedule with a 13-game hitting streak, including multiple hits in six of the final seven contests. In the career record book, he is fifth all-time in walks (118), seventh in doubles (44) and eighth in hits (230).
Gulbransen is also currently one of 19 finalists “Fan’s Choice Award” presented by TD Ameritrade.
The “Fan’s Choice Award” recognizes college baseball players who are positive role models both on and off the field, exemplifying core values like teamwork and integrity, as well as the drive to win.
