Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis.) held the Richmond Spiders in check into the ninth inning before giving way to closer Drew Woods (Jacksonville, Fla.).

McRae spread eleven hits over 8 1/3 innings striking out five and allowing solo runs in the second and third innings before giving way to Woods in the ninth. Woods pitched the final two outs recording his first save of the season.

The Dolphin offense came to life quickly as Michael Babb (Jacksonville, Fla.) lead off the bottom of the first with a solo shot to left putting the Dolphins ahead 1-0. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom half of the fourth inning Brady North (Tampa, Fla.) connected on a towering drive to right that knotted the score at two. The Dolphins added another run in the fifth when Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla.) doubled to center and Babb followed with a single for his second RBI of the game.

Leading off the Bottom half of the seventh Jake Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla.) homered to left increasing the lead to 4-2. The Dolphins added an insurance run in the eight when Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, NY.) doubled and scored on a single by Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla.).

The Dolphins have been plagued in the early season by the big inning and McRae did and excellent job of working out of jams not allowing the Spiders to gain momentum. “ We needed a good outing and Alex delivered,” said Head Coach Terry Alexander. “We can now look forward to Sunday with a chance to win a series against a very good Richmond ball club”.
