Dolphins rally falls short against NKU 4-3
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky Norse (7-31,2-12 A-Sun) downed the JU Dolphins (14-24, 7-7 A- Sun) at the Bill Aker Sports Complex on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
The Dolphins scored first in the top half of the fifth inning. Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal). Garrett Ruckel (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) then followed with single to put the Dolphins up 1-0.
The Norse rallied for four runs on four hits and one Dolphin error in the bottom half of the seventh off Dolphin starting pitcher Alex McRae (West Allis, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) to take a 4-1 lead.
The Dolphins attempted a comeback in the eighth. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, N.Y./FSCJ) led off with a double. Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) then delivered his fourth homer of the season to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Dolphins could get know closer. McRae (3-4) was credited with loss after going 6 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs while striking out one.
Zachary Houck (Orange Park, Fla./Eagles View Academy) added a pair of singles for the Dolphins. Luther and Dillard both finished the day with a pair of hits.
