ETSU Downs Dolphins in Twelve Innings 3-2

JOHNSON CITY, TN.- The East Tennessee State University Buccaneers (31-22,16-10 A-Sun) defeated the JU Dolphins (17-37, 8-18 A-Sun) 3-2 in Atlantic Sun Conference action at Thomas Stadium on Friday evening.

The Dolphins battling for their post-season lives could not take advantage of a masterpiece thrown by Dolphin starting pitcher Chris Anderson (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial). Anderson pitched ten innings allowing only eights hits and no earned runs. The junior struck out nine while only walking one before being replaced in the eleventh.

In a game delayed by over two hours by rain and lightning the Dolphins threatened early. Dylan Dillard (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) was hit by a pitch and stole second but the Dolphins could not take advantage in the top half of the first inning. The Bucs jumped out early off Dolphin starting pitcher Chris Anderson (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial). The Bucs scored twice on two singles, a double and a costly Dolphin error to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the first.

The Dolphins scratched across a pair of runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Nathan Koslowski (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla./Santa Fe College). Koslowski advanced to third on a fly out to right by Brady North (Tampa, Fla./Hillsboro CC). Drew Luther (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton College) reached on a throwing error that scored Koslowski. Ethan Loosen (Uniondale, N.Y./FSCJ) then ripped an RBI double to right scoring Luther to make it a 2-2 game.

Anderson and the Dolphins worked out of a runners on the corners and one out jam in the bottom of the seventh. Anderson coaxed Bucs left fielder Dylan Tritsch into an inning ending double play.

The Dolphins stayed alive in the bottom of the ninth when Koslowski gunned down Bucs second baseman Derek Niesman at third base while trying to advance on deep fly out to center.

The Dolphins threatened in the top of the eleventh inning. Dillard led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Koslowski. Dillard then advanced third on a ground out by Huxtable. The Dolphins stranded Dillard at third.

The Bucs pushed across the winning run in the bottom half of the twelfth on a lead off single and a sacrifice followed by a double down the right field line.
