Men’s golf finishes eighth at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship

The Jacksonville men’s golf team season came to a completion on Wednesday with an eighth place finish at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

The Dolphins carded a 28-over par round of 316, led by senior Bobby Fredeking’s five-over par, 77.

North Florida won the team title at 11-over par for the event, shooting 14-over par for the day.  Stetson’s Sam Ryder rallied for the individual title, finishing the event at 3-under par.

“With the delay early, we knew the conditions were going to be tough and the scores reflect that,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn.  “I want to thank our seniors for all of their hard work through the years building the foundation for our program.”

Fredeking’s five-over par round got off to a rough start – making the turn at five-over par.  His birdie at the par-5 fifth hole, his 14th, got him back to four-over par briefly.  A bogey at the par-3 seventh was the final mark on his scorecard as he finished in a tie for 18th at 12-over par.

Freshman Nick Torrance had the best finish of the week for Jacksonville, carding a six-over par 78 in the final round to tie for 15th at 11-over par.

Freshman Brett McKinnon fell into a tie for 25th at 14-over par after shooting an 81 in the final round.  Jamey Salmon shot an eight-over par, 80, and tied for 40th at 22-over par.  Will Braude took home 49th after shooting an 84.
