JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University women’s golfer Natalie Schmett was named to a pair of Atlantic Sun all-conference teams Wednesday.
Schmett, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., was named A-Sun all-conference second team and was a unanimous pick to the all-freshman team.
Among her achievements this season, Schmett tied the school record with a three-under par 69 in the final round to lead the Dolphins to a fifth-place finish at the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship earlier this month.
“This is a tremendous honor for Natalie and a good end to her first collegiate season,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange. “I’m looking forward to seeing her game improve over the summer and return in the fall ready to build on this season.”
In just her third career start, Schmett rallied to win the Wendy’s Invitational on Oct. 18. Trailing by one, Schmett carded a one-over par, 72, in the final round to tie for the title and won the title in a scorecard playoff.
Schmett led the team with a stroke average of 75.5, claiming two top five finishes, six top 10s and eight top 20s.
