JU men out of MAAC tournament
A quirky set of circumstances knocked the men’s lacrosse team out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament Saturday.

The Dolphins (6-7, 3-3), who only a week ago appeared a shoo-in for the tournament, became the victim of a four-team tie break with Detroit, Canisius and Marist based on circumstances in this Saturday’s play.

First, Detroit was upset by VMI 9-8 early in the afternoon which gives the Titans a 3-3 conference record. Later, Canisius knocked off Marist, 7-5, giving both those teams a 3-3 MAAC record and setting up a “mini-conference’’ tie break between the four.

Detroit got in having beaten JU, Canisius and Marist in the regular season and will be the second-seed to Siena.

The remaining three teams used goals allowed against each other to determine the final two spots for next weekend’s tournament at Marist.

JU gave up 17 goals to Canisius-Marist combined; Canisius gave up 14 goals to JU-Marist and Marist gave up 14 goals to Canisius-JU pushing the Dolphins aside by two goals.
