Women's hoops adds April Carson to complete 2012-13 class
The JU women’s basketball team rounded out its roster for next season by adding guard April Carson (5-9, Weston, Fla.) for the 2012-13 campaign
Carson comes to JU after spending her freshman season at UNC Greensboro. While with Spartans, she appeared in 21 games and had a season-high 10 points in the home finale against Wofford. She also scored six points against Radford (11/21) and Furman (3/2). Carson finished the season with 10 assists and nine steals.
"April is a combo guard that can shoot the three from deep range,” JU head coach Jill Dunn said. “She also has the ability to penetrate and create for herself or others. She will bring experience immediately to our team since she has already competed one year at the collegiate level.”
Carson was an all-state honoree as a senior at Nova High School. She was also a McDonald’s All American Game nominee and earned Miami Herald third-team all-county honors. Carson entered her senior season ranked as the 62nd-best shooting guard nationally by SheCanPlay.org and the 20th-best girls basketball player in Florida by FlaVarsity.com.
As a sophomore, she helped Nova High School to district and regional titles with a 27-4 record. They also reached the state title game for the first time in school history. On the AAU level, she helped the South Florida Jaguars to a No. 1 national ranking.
Carson will join the other JU newcomers guard Queen Alford (5-8, Decatur, Ga.), forward Briona Brown (5-11, Haines City, Fla.), guard Stephanie Edwards (5-8, Miami, Fla.) and forward Elizabeth Landers (6-1, Greenville, S.C.) on the court this fall.
