The JU volleyball team added more depth to its roster by signing outside hitters Thalya Pagan (5-7, Manati, Puerto Rico) and Gabriella Roman (5-11, San Juan, Puerto Rico) for the 2012 season.

“Gaby and Thalya are a tremendous addition to our program,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “They both have great volleyball experience and have been playing at a high level for a long time. They will come in and raise the level of our gym immediately. Plus, they are also great students and even better people. JU is fortunate to have them join our family and I look forward to working with these young women.”

Pagan earned all-star team honors in her final two seasons at the Christian Military Academy in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. She also competed in the 2009 junior Olympics in Miami. In the club volleyball circuit, Pagan has played for the T. Borinquen Coqui, earning titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Roman was a four-year letter winner at the Saint Francis School in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She was named the Pumas’ best offensive player as a sophomore and junior, while also earning all-tournament honors in the Saint Francis Tournament during her senior season.

Outside of Saint Francis, she helped Team Volleyball Rags U-20 squad secure a Puerto Rico junior National Championship in 2011. They have also won three division titles since last season.

Pagan and Roman join Emily Laskelle (6-2, Napa, Calif.) who signed with the Dolphins in April.
