The Dolphins will have the first 16 matches away from the friendly confines of Swisher Gymnasium to start the season. During the road stretch, JU will see three 2011 NCAA tournament participants in Liberty, Florida and Lipscomb.
“I am looking forward to our competition this fall,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “We will be facing teams in our preseason that will challenge us and help us develop and grow as a team. Our goal is to be better prepared for a demanding conference schedule.”
The 16-game road swing is mostly consisted of four road tournaments for the Dolphins.
JU plays N.C. State in the 2012 opener on Aug. 24 to start the College of Charleston tournament in Charleston, S.C. It will finish with the host Cougars and Sacramento State the next day.
Starting Aug. 31, the Dolphins will be in Orlando to play Liberty, UCF and Columbia in the Holiday Inn tournament hosted by the Knights. JU plays Florida, Georgia Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette in the Active Ankle Challenge starting Sept. 7 in Gainesville, Fla.
The Dolphins wrap the tournament slate in Statesboro, Ga. against Savannah State, South Alabama, Wisconsin and Georgia Southern beginning Sept. 14.
The 18-match A-Sun schedule begins with a trip to Nashville to face defending champion Lipscomb Aug. 21. JU closes its long road trip with the A-Sun’s newest member, Northern Kentucky, the next day in Highland Heights, Ky.
JU finally opens at home against cross-town rival North Florida Sept. 28 in Swisher Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The Ospreys rallied from 2-0 deficits to win both 2011 meetings and keep the Dolphins from making the A-Sun tournament for the second straight season.
The Dolphins are slated for seven home contests in October starting with Florida Gulf Coast Oct. 2. They will also host Kennesaw State (Oct. 5), Mercer (Oct. 6), Florida A&M (Oct. 16), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 19), Lipscomb (Oct. 20) and Lipscomb (Oct. 23). JU finishes the home schedule with USC Upstate and East Tennessee State on consecutive nights starting Nov. 9.
JU’s remaining road matches include ETSU (Oct. 12), USC Upstate (Oct. 13), Mercer (Oct. 26), Kennesaw State (Oct. 27), FGCU (Oct. 31), UNF (Nov. 3) and Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 7).
For the second straight season, Lipscomb will host the A-Sun tournament in Nashville starting Nov. 15. The Dolphins last competed in the conference tournament in 2009.
