Women’s hoops release its 2012-13 schedule
The JU women’s basketball team will kick off the season at home with a special 11:30 a.m. start against Florida A&M as the Dolphins release their 2012-13 season.

Following the afternoon opener, the Dolphins will see action against two former Atlantic Sun Conference rivals as well as play a school from the Big East, ACC and SEC during its early slate.

“As always we have a competitive schedule,” JU head coach Jill Dunn said. “We are playing three schools in three of the top BCS leagues and one of those is a home game for us. We are excited about the challenge that our schedule will bring.”

After playing Florida A&M, the Dolphins will host Bethune-Cookman Nov. 12 for the first time in Swisher Gymnasium since the 2005 season. JU will head on the road to play former conference foes Florida Atlantic (Nov. 18) and Jacksonville State (Nov. 25) before heading to play South Carolina State (Nov. 28). They will host Vermont at home on Nov. 21 to break up the road stretch.

JU opens December with a road trip to play Clemson on Dec. 2. They will come back home the following weekend to host USF (Dec. 8) in Swisher Gymnasium. It will be the Bulls time to Swisher Gymnasium since the 2000-01 season. JU suffered a five-point loss in the last meeting against USF in Tampa to start the 2010-11 campaign.

The Dolphins host Savannah State in Swisher Gymnasium Dec. 16 before playing Troy (Dec. 18) in the first of six games in the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. JU faces Auburn (Dec. 22) in Auburn, Ala. to wrap the non-conference slate.

JU begins the 18-game A-Sun schedule with six contests within the first 15 days of the New Year. The Dolphins will host Northern Kentucky (Dec. 31), Lipscomb (Jan. 2), Mercer (Jan. 12) and Kennesaw State (Jan. 14). They will also play the last two A-Sun champions Florida Gulf Coast (Jan. 5) and Stetson (Jan. 7) on the road in that two-week span.

The Dolphins play at cross-town rival North Florida Jan. 19 before hosting them at Swisher Gymnasium Feb. 19. The Ospreys have won the last five regular season meetings, including hitting a game-winning layup as time expired to ruin JU’s Senior Day last season.

The A-Sun road season rounds out with USC Upstate (Jan. 26), East Tennessee State (Jan. 28), Kennesaw State (Feb. 9), Mercer (Feb. 11), Lipscomb (Feb. 28) and Northern Kentucky (Mar. 2).

JU wraps its home slate with Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 2) and Stetson (Feb. 4) at the beginning of February before hosting ETSU (Feb. 23) and Mercer (Feb. 25) at the end of the month.

The A-Sun championship will again take place in Macon, Ga., with Mercer as the host starting Mar. 29.
