Baseball signs Scott Schaub for the 2013 season
The JU baseball team found some help at third base for next season by adding junior college transfer Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla./College of Central Florida) for the 2013 campaign.
Schaub (6-2, 220) hit .360 with 20 RBI and 13 runs scored during the 2012 season in leading the Patriots to a conference runner-up finish. As a freshman, he recorded 33 RBI and scored 31 times while tallying a .279 clip.
“Scott is a line drive, gap to gap hitter who should hit in the middle of the order for us,” JU associate head coach Tim Montez said. “He is a steady defensive player and brings a tough mental approach which will benefit our team approach dynamic for the 2013 season.”
Schaub was a four-year starter at Vanguard High School in Ocala, Fla. As a senior, he hit a career-best .440 with 33 RBI and 30 runs to earn first team all-area and team offensive and defensive MVP accolades. He earned first team all-area honors as a junior after hitting .384 with 26 RBI. Schaub also played three seasons on the Knights’ soccer team.
Schaub joins Kris Molter (3B/Bishop Kenny HS), Michael Babb (OF/Bartram Trail HS), Nathan Koslowski (Episcopal HS), Brady North (1B/Hillsborough JC), Zach Gordon (RHP/St. Petersburg College), Josh Baker (OF/LHP/University School) and Nate Ricci (OF/1B /Madison LaFolette), Jacob Terry (RHP/Navarre HS), Blake Hanestad (UT/Los Medanos College) and Drew Luther (C/Fullerton College) as newcomers for the upcoming season. 2013 Baseball Signees
