The Dolphins received the accolade again by raising their GPA from 3.26 in 2010-11 to 3.31 following the 2011-12 academic year. Outside of the classroom, JU has won the last 14 A-Sun titles and picked up the conference women’s cross country crown in 2009.
“We should all be proud of the academic success of this team, and the individuals within the team,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “Their continued hard work, achievement and recognition speak to the culture that has been created within our program. Their successes would not be possible without the high expectations and high levels of support that exists throughout Jacksonville University and the athletic department. A special thank you to Chris Johnson, Jennifer Price and Natasha Harvey for the work they do in student-athlete services.”
Rising seniors Charlene Charles and Bienna Freeman each received individual academic honors for the second straight year from the USTFCCCA to represent JU. Charles competed at the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon and Freeman competed for the Dolphins in the 800-meter at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.
