The Jacksonville University women’s soccer team defeated the Citadel 5-0 in an exhibition match on Sunday at the Ashley Sports Complex. This was the last preseason game for the Dolphins as they now head into the regular season.
The goals came early and often for JU as junior Raquel Weckhurst started things off by finding the back of the net from a ball from freshman Sarah Moghadas in the thirteenth minute. JU then got a pair of goals off of impressive long strikes from senior Emily Culbreth and freshman forward Marie Weckhurst, Raquel’s sister. Adriana Rodrigues and Moghadas went on to each score a goal to bring the score to the final of 5-0.
“I was pleased with the way we came out from the start,” said head coach Brian Copham. “We were able to create some good offensive opportunities and capitalize on them. It was a good game for us as we got to see a lot of team in game action.”
The Dolphins have now wrapped up their preseason and will open up their season on the road at FAU on August 17.
“This was a good note to end the preseason on as we are heading in the right direction as a team. We are a work in progress getting better and better each week.”
