Walker II, who was a third round selection in the Twins 2012 draft, hit .356 with seven runs and five RBI to earn his first professional honor. He helped his cause with three home runs in two games against the Johnson City Cardinals (Rookie/St. Louis Cardinals) on Aug. 8-9. Walker II finished the week with a three-hit effort against the Bristol White Sox (Rookie/Chicago White Sox).
“This is a cool honor for Adam,” JU head coach Terry Alexander said. “I have been following his progress and he is getting into nice stride. I am excited to see how he finishes.”
The Milwaukee, Wis. native is currently tied for the league-lead in home runs (12) while ranking second in RBI (40) and runs scored (38). Since July 16, Walker II has raised his overall average by more than 40 points in the last 23 contests.
In 2012, Walker II was named first team all-conference for the second straight season by leading the Dolphins in average (.343), hits (72), runs scored (44), doubles (14), home runs (12), RBI (42), total bases (122) and on-base percentage (.426). He was also second in stolen bases (19) and walks (29).
Walker finished his JU career in the top five all-time at JU in doubles (53, 4th), home runs (41, 3rd), RBI (175, 4th), total bases (409, 4th) and slugging percentage (.635, 4th). He is seventh all-time in hits at 231.
