JU picked to finish fifth in Atlantic Sun

The coaches of the Atlantic Sun Conference have picked the Jacksonville University men’s soccer team to finish fifth in the regular season.

JU garnered 36 points in the poll to finish in a fifth place tie with Lipscomb.  East Tennessee State topped the poll with 78 points and six first place votes just edging out Florida Gulf Coast.  ETSU was also picked to win the conference tournament and represent the A-Sun in the college cup.

The Dolphins did not place anyone on the preseason A-Sun team but that is to be expected with so many newcomers and a completely new coaching staff.  With only six upperclassmen including no seniors on the team, no one knows how good the team can really be.

“Preseason polls don’t really mean that much,” said JU head coach Ryan Pratt.  “The important thing is how you finish.  We have completely overhauled our program here at JU and to be honest I was surprised we were picked that high.  We have put together a challenging schedule and one that will test our young team each and every game.  I am looking forward to seeing our team mature and progress towards being the type of team we want here at JU.

The regular season kicks off on August 24 when the Dolphins host Georgia State at the Ashley Sports Complex.  The game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
