The Jacksonville University men’s soccer team opens its 2012 regular season tonight when it hosts the Georgia State Panthers.
Tonight’s game will mark the 24th time that these two teams have me with the last meeting happing back in 2007 when the Panthers defeated the Dolphins 3-0. The Panthers are coached by former JU standout Brett Surrency who in his Dolphin career was a four year starter and three year captain along with being recognized on the Atlantic Sun all-conference team twice.
The Dolphins will have a stiff test to start the season as the Panthers return nine starters from last season’s NCAA Tournament team.
“Tonight’s game against Georgia State will be a tough game,” says Dolphin first year head coach Ryan Pratt. “Georgia State was an NCAA tournament team last year and our young squad is looking forward to the challenge.”
Not only is this the opening game of the season for the Dolphins, it is also Pratt’s first regular season game as head coach. Both he and the team are eager to finally get the season under way.
“We are excited to get the season started and to play games that will test us every day and demand our best mental and physical effort,” said Pratt. “We can now begin the process of becoming the team and the program that we want to become.”
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex. Live video will be available on ASun.TV.
