Women’s cross country takes second in JU Short Course Duals
Junior Svenja Meyer and senior Joane Pierre took the top two spots at the meet to lead the JU women’s cross country team to a second-place finish in the JU Short Course Duals Friday evening.
Meyer won the meet in 14:06.70, while Pierre was not far behind with a time of 14:19.10 for second.
North Florida (3-0) had all seven of its runners placed third through ninth to win the event. After JU (2-1), Bethune-Cookman placed third with a 1-2 mark, while Savannah State rounded out the group.
“Svenja and Joane did a nice job today,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “They hung out with the easy early pace before Svenja made a decisive move to gap the field. But we did not have an answer for UNF’s team depth.”
Junior Morgan Keel (15:00.00), senior Amalia Vogler (15:13.10 ) and sophomore Sarah Bailey (15:18.20) finished 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively. Junior LaTonya Payne (15th) ran a 15:35.70 to round out the JU runners.
The Dolphins return to action Oct. 5, at the FSU Invitational.
