Dolphins play to a scoreless draw

On Sunday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex, the Jacksonville Dolphins women’s soccer team played to 0-0 draw with the Georgia Southern Eagles.

JU (1-3-1) almost doubled Georgia Southern’s (3-0-2) shot attempts, 15-8, but it could not break through and find a goal even with the extra twenty minutes of overtime added on.  Junior forward Raquel Weckhurst led the way with four of JU’s 15 shot attempts.

“I was incredibly proud of our effort and work out there today,” said Dolphin head coach Brian Copham.   “We pushed through and battled on a hot Sunday afternoon.  I was pleased with our play, we just need to capitalize on our scoring chances.”

Although the offense struggled to score, the defense turned in another excellent performance highlighted by Georgia Southern’s only two shots on goal including none in regulation.  The Eagles could not manage to get any real shots off throughout the whole game due to the strong back line play.

With the tie, the Dolphins snapped a three game losing streak.  They will now head out on a two game road trip through South Carolina where they will play Presbyterian on September 6 and Furman on September 8.
