Dolphins fall in conference opener

In a rare early season conference game, the Jacksonville University men’s soccer team fell to the Stetson Hatters 2-0 Friday night in Deland, Fl.  The Dolphins are still searching for their first win of the season after falling to 0-5-0 (0-1-0 A-Sun) after the loss.

The Hatters took a 1-0 first half lead off of a Kai Eckenrode goal in the 20th minute.  Stetson’s Joakim Helland ripped a shot towards goal that opportunely rebounded to Eckenrode who found the back of the net for the game’s first score.

Four minutes into the second half, the Hatters doubled their lead to 2-0.  Stetson’s Stevie Saballos found Luis Ocejo who fired and converted from 12 yards out to push the lead to two.

The Dolphins growing pains continued as they again struggled to score and create offense being outshot 15-6.  Freshman forward Juan Manuel Arguedas led the Dolphins with two of the team’s three shots on goal.

JU gets a week off before they return to action for a stiff test against nationally ranked UCF.  They will travel to Orlando to take on the Knights next Friday at 7:30 pm.
