Dolphins tripped up at Hofstra

The Jacksonville University men’s soccer team lost 3-1 Tuesday night at Hofstra.

Junior Nick Rodriguez’s fourth goal of the season was not enough to propel the Dolphins to their second straight victory.

JU fell behind in the opening half 1-0 as Hofstra was able to punch in a goal in the 25th minute.  Mike Annarumma took a pass into the box and beat Dolphin keeper Gavin Carlin to take the lead.

The Dolphins would respond just six minutes later with an equalizer.  Sophomore and reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Matheus Saroli led Rodriguez with a perfect through ball who was able to beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation.

The game would remain tied for just 27 seconds however as Hofstra was able to catch JU off guard and retake the lead.

After the first half ended 2-1, Hofstra was able to put the game away scoring a goal with two minutes left in the game.

Jacksonville was outshot 21-12 and had only two corner kicks compared to Hofstra’s nine.

The Dolphins (1-7-1, 0-1-0 A-Sun) will conclude their non-conference portion of their schedule when they travel to former Atlantic Sun member Belmont on September 29.
