The JU men’s golf team put three players in the top-20 en route to a sixth place finish at the Cobra Puma Invitational Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Jamey Salmon and sophomore Nick Torrance each finished tied for 11th, while sophomore Colin Monagle placed 16th as the Dolphins shot 3-over par (867) in their second fall tournament.

“I thought this was a step in the right direction,” JU head coach Mike Blackburn said. “Everyone played well and improved a little from the first tournament. We will look for more improvement when we compete again in two weeks.”

Salmon was 2-under par 70 in his first round Monday before finishing even-par in the final two rounds to lead the Dolphins. Torrance started under-par in his first two rounds (70, 71) and finished with a round of 73 Tuesday.

Mongale, who played on the JU baseball team his first two seasons, shot even-par 72 in his first round. He faltered in his second round, but carded a 69 in his last round to end on a high note.

Freshman Christian Vickers and senior Trey Douglas each had a good first round before finishing tied for 53rd to close out the JU group.

The Dolphins return to action Oct. 15 for the Auto Trader Collegiate Classic in Duluth, Ga.
