The JU women’s and men’s cross country teams will hit the race path again Friday when they compete at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.

The women’s squad will back in action for the first time all together since running in the JU Short Course Duals Aug. 31. This is also the first of three meets in October for the Dolphins.

“We’ve never waited this long before having our first serious race of the season,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “I just wanted to be patient in developing their fitness fully. We are excited to preview the Regionals course, and we are excited about the 6k distance. I think they are all just ready to put on the uniform and compete.”

At the JU Short Course Duals, junior Svenja Meyer (14:06.70) and senior Joane Pierre (14:19.10) took the top two spots at the meet to lead the Dolphins to a second-place finish.

Junior Morgan Keel (15:00.00), senior Amalia Vogler (15:13.10 ) and sophomore Sarah Bailey (15:18.20) finished 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively. Junior LaTonya Payne (15th) ran a 15:35.70 to round out the JU runners.

On the men’s side, freshmen Nick Dale and Andrew Merrill will compete for the Dolphins for the second straight week. Dale ran a time of 16:44.80 (6th) in helping the Dolphins to a fifth-place finish at the FLRunners.com Invitational. Merrill was the next highest finisher at 17th in 17:30.90.

“Nick and Andy ran well over the 5k distance last Friday, JU head coach Ron Grigg said. Now, we will see how they handle their first college 8k.”
