The Jacksonville University softball team recently took some time to serve the needs of the underprivileged in the local community. The team spent last weekend helping paint the exteriors of the St. Augustine Youth Services new boys’ homes.
St. Augustine Youth Services is a nonprofit organization that serves boys from the ages of 6-18 who are in need of residential therapeutic services due to abuse and neglect. They offer the boys housing, mental health services, and care at the organization’s homes.
The organization currently operates out of a couple small buildings in downtown St. Augustine, but has built new, much more spacious homes at another location that they hope to move into soon. The softball team assisted in painting the exteriors of those new buildings.
“It is always good to get out as a team and give back to our community,” said Dolphin head coach Ali Higgs. “St. Augustine Youth Services is a fantastic organization that is run by a group of amazing people. This was a great opportunity for all of us to grow closer as a team while helping out those that are less fortunate.”
