Women's soccer looks to stay near top of A-Sun standings

The Dolphins currently sit tied for third in the Atlantic Sun with a 3-0-2 conference record and will look to keep pace with the leaders as they travel to play Mercer and Kennesaw State this weekend.

Jacksonville will first play Mercer on Friday night before traveling north to Kennesaw for a Sunday afternoon match.

Mercer is one of three teams left in conference play that has yet to lose entering the weekend with an identical 3-0-2 conference record as JU.  The other remaining unbeaten team besides JU and Mercer is UNF.  Jacksonville will be looking to avenge last season’s first round upset in the conference tournament where the Bears were able to knock off the Dolphins and advance on penalty kicks.  Jacksonville has been knocked out of the postseason the last two seasons by Mercer including falling in the championship game in 2010.

The Bears are led by Lauren Gassie who has posted 16 points on the season including six goals.

Kennesaw enters the weekend with a 3-1-1 record in the A-Sun.   The Dolphins hold a 5-5-0 all-time record against the Owls, but won last season’s meeting 1-0 at the Ashley Sports Complex.  The Owls are led by Danielle Gray who in 14 starts this season has seven goals and three assists.
