The Dolphins return six players from last season’s squad that ended the year on a high note by winning four of the final six games to make the A-Sun Tournament for the sixth straight season.
"We are facing an SEC team that is well-coached," JU head coach Cliff Warren said. "We need to be mentally and physically prepared to fight. It will be a tough challenge, but our players will be prepared."
Leading the crop of returners are seniors Glenn Powell and Russell Powell.
Powell was named preseason all-conference after leading the Dolphins in blocks (37), while ranking second in rebounds (6.4) and third in scoring (10.9) in 29 starts last season. He had four double-doubles last season and finished with at least 10 points in seven of the final nine games.
In 2012-12, Russell Powell posted career-best in assists (119) and steals (39) while being the only Dolphin to start in all 30 contests. He registered double-digits in scoring 11 times, including 19 in the win vs. Mercer (2/18).
Another returner is junior Keith McDougald who managed to finish second in scoring (11.2) and three-pointers (32) despite being limited to 19 games due to injury.
The Bulldogs look to build upon their 15-17 overall record from the 2011-12 campaign. Georgia beat Young Harris College, 86-52, in an exhibition contest Nov. 2. Kenny Gaines scored 16 points in 18 minutes to lead the Bulldogs.
In the all-time series, the Bulldogs have won all eight meetings over the Dolphins in a series that dates back to 1965. Georgia downed JU, 93-77, in the last contest in Athens on Dec. 13, 2006.
