The JU women’s basketball team tackles its toughest task of the season when it hosts USF Saturday at 1 p.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.

The Dolphins (3-4) return home to try to derail an undefeated Bulls’ (7-0) squad that has beaten the A-Sun preseason top three (FGCU, Stetson, UNF) by more than 20 points.

“We have to be clicking on all cylinders tomorrow for 40 minutes,” JU head coach Jill Dunn said. “USF is a very tough team that focuses on pressure defense and getting out and running in transition.”

JU is back in Swisher following two tough losses at South Carolina State (Nov. 28) and Clemson (Dec. 2).

At Clemson, junior Jade Cargill scored 16 points to lead the Dolphins offense. Freshman Queen Alford recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. Junior Stephanie Edwards had 13 points off the bench in the loss.

Cargill continues to be JU’s table setter by ranking first in scoring (11.4), rebounding (8.6) and steals (17). Senior Tracie Sneed is second in scoring with a 9.1 average.

The Bulls have downed North Florida, 66-44, and Florida Gulf Coast, 67-46, in their last two contests.

Andrea Smith leads the USF offense with 16.1 points a contest, while Andrell Smith is second at a 14.7 average. Inga Orekhova is scoring 11.6 a game to round out the Bulls averaging double-digits.

USF has won all seven meetings in the all-time series, including two in Jacksonville. The Bulls earned an 82-77 win in the last meeting in Tampa to open the 2010-11 season.
