Dolphins earn weekly honor for the second consecutive week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville junior Javon Dawson (Cordele, Ga.) was named the Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week in an official announcement made by the league office on Tuesday (Jan. 22).  It is the second consecutive week that a player from JU has been recognized with the award.

Dawson picked up his first weekly honor this week after leading the Dolphins to a 77-68 win at North Florida in the SunTrust River City Rumble with 17 points and six rebounds in only 22 minutes of action.  The University of Utah transfer shot 7-of-10 from the field and 2-2 from the foul line.  In a tight game that featured 11 ties and five lead changes, Dawson totaled 13 of his points in only 13 minutes of action in the first half.  During his first half stretch, four of his five field goals either tied the game or gave JU the lead.

The junior forward is averaging 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds this season.

JU Freshman Jarvis Haywood (Charlotte, N.C.) was named the Atlantic Sun Co-Newcomer of the Week last week.

At 5-2 in the A-Sun, Jacksonville departs on a two-game road swing this weekend at East Tennessee State on Thursday and at USC Upstate on Saturday.
