JU wraps spring opener
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - After leading the Dolphins in rounds one and two on Monday, sophomores Nick Torrance (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and Brett McKinnon (Grace Bay, Nova Scotia) continued to pace the JU men’s golf team in Tuesday’s final round of the Sea Best Invitational from the TPC at Sawgrass.
Torrance tied for 16th at 10-over par (76-72-78—226) while McKinnon finished tied for 22nd at 11-over par (75-77-75—227). Sophomore Colin Monagle (Jacksonville, Fla) (81-78-77—236) and senior Jamey Salmon (Jacksonville, Fla.) (78-77-81—236) finished in a tie for 55th place. Senior Trey Douglas (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) (90-91-86—257) finished in 72nd place.
The 26th ranked Tennessee Volunteers won the tournament by four strokes over No. 30 Texas A&M. The Volunteers who were led by individual champion Rick Lamb finished the tournament with a three –round score of 15-over par (300-279-300—879). Lamb was the only player in the field that finished under par for the tourney carding a 5-under (70-65-76—211) in the two –day, three round tournament.
The Dolphins return to action starting Saturday at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
