Dolphins sweep A-Sun women's indoor track & field awards

Seniors Bienna Freeman and Charlene Charles were named the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their record setting efforts at last weekend’s Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup.

Freeman was dubbed the A-Sun Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career after breaking her own school record in the 800 meters.  She won the event against a very competitive field in a time of 2:08.17 which ranks 24th nationally this season.  Freeman also ran a leg in the Dolphins’ school record distance medley that clocked in at 11:36.48.

Charles received A-Sun Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career.  She had the performance of the season winning four out of the five events in the pentathlon to win with a total of 4,049 points.  Her point total ranks in the top 10 nationally for the event in 2013.

"Charlene and Bienna were among the many athletes in our program who had exceptional performances last weekend,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg.  “We will count on them to lead us as we move forward towards the conference championships."

The Dolphins now have two weeks to get prepared for the conference championships on February 22 in Johnson City, Tenn.  They will be look to win the title for a record eighth straight time.
