Jacksonville (12-13; 7-5 A-Sun) travels to Kennesaw State (2-21; 1-10 A-Sun) on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm looking to split a two game road swing through Georgia. Following Thursday’s action, the Dolphins sat in a three-way tie for third in the A-Sun with Stetson and USC Upstate.
JU is coming off a 67-64 overtime loss at Mercer on Friday. Freshman Jarvis Haywood once again led the way for the Dolphins totaling a team high 13 points with five rebounds. Named the A-Sun Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday, the 6’5” rookie has continued to elevate his game and is one of only three freshmen in the league averaging over 10 points per game. In the first meeting against Kennesaw State this season he scored a career best 18 points in a 99-92 3OT win.
The Dolphins also had big games on Thursday from fellow newcomers Javon Dawson and Kordario Fleming. A University of Utah transfer, Dawson racked up 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists while accounting for all six of JU’s points in the extra session. He is averaging 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in A-Sun play. Fleming posted his third double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds against Mercer. He has had either double digit points or rebounds in four straight games.
Kennesaw State is coming off a 60-52 loss to North Florida on Thursday. Markeith Cummings leads the A-Sun in scoring with 17.0 ppg.
Jacksonville leads the all-time series 12-3 having won the last 12 meetings.
