MACON, Ga. – Fresh off of their eighth straight indoor track & field A-Sun Championship, Dolphin head coach Ron Grigg and senior Charlene Charles were voted the conference’s Coach of the Year and Most Outstanding Field Performer.
For Grigg it is the eighth straight year that he has received the honor, while Charles won the award for the third time in the last four years.
“Charlene has been a great leader for us,” said Grigg. “This is a fitting way for her to end her ASUN indoor career.”
Charles became the first athlete in A-Sun history to win the long jump three times. She leaped a season best 19-04.25 to capture the title for the third time in the last four years. She also jumped 5-07.00 in the high jump to finish in second place. Her record setting pentathlon performance earlier in the season has her ranked 14th nationally and set to compete in next weekend’s NCAA Championships.
Grigg helped guide to the Dolphins to 173 total points and their record eighth consecutive title. The Dolphins had five event wins and 17 All-Conference performances.
The Dolphins kick off their outdoor season in which they will try to duplicate their indoor feat and win the conference title for the eighth straight year this weekend at the UNF Spring Break Open.
