Dolphins head to the A-Sun Tournament next week as the four seed

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
– The Jacksonville men’s basketball team led by 13 points with 2 and-a-half minutes remaining, but could not finish off Northern Kentucky as the Norse rallied to defeat the Dolphins 66-62 in the Atlantic Sun regular season final. JU (14-17; 9-9 A-Sun) now heads to next week’s A-Sun Tournament as the four seed and will face USC Upstate in the quarterfinal round on Thursday.

“It’s a one game season for us now. We have to get back to practice and correct a few things so we can be ready to play next Thursday,” said JU Head Coach Cliff Warren.

Junior guard Keith McDougald (Jacksonville, Fla.) led JU with 21 points and 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

McDougald scored 13 of his points in the second half, including seven straight at one point to help the Dolphins build up a 58-45 lead with 2:35 remaining. It would not be enough however as NKU (11-15; 9-9 A-Sun) cracked up its full court pressure and closed out the game with a 21-4 run to steal the game from JU.

“These guys are hurting a little bit but they understand that there are more games to play so we have to put this one behind us and move onto next week,” said Warren.

Freshman Jarvis Haywood (Charlotte, N.C.) added 11 points while junior Javon Dawson (Cordele, Ga.) totaled nine points and had 10 rebounds.
